Formula One’s Michael Schumacher

Formula One’s Michael Schumacher

When one thinks about Formula One, one inevitably thinks of Michael Schumacher, one of the most iconic representatives of the sport. The German legend has a stunning record of five consecutive wins with Ferrari. He made his retirement in 2006 but made a comeback in 2010 with Mercedes before going out for good in 2012.

Schumacher was very competitive, which also led to him resorting to some unsporting behavior.

Two years ago, the Formula One champion made headlines when he had an accident that put him into a coma. On December 29, 2013, while vacationing on the French Alps with friends and family, he suffered a severe head injury while skating.  Doctors determined his condition to be extremely serious after the second day after being admitted. He went through two life-saving operations and slipped into a coma.

Very little information has been released to the media since the family has remained very reluctant to provide details about the incident and the real consequences. What we know is that after three months in a coma, Schumacher woke up and left Grenoble Hospital where he had been admitted.

Three months later we learned that he had been transferred to the family home in Lake Nevada from Lausanne Hospital.  The family stated that this was done with the purpose of helping him rehabilitate from his severe injuries.

To this day, we know officially that Schumacher is slowly recovering. The family and manager make statements about how slow and difficult the path to recovery is. They have kept Schumacher’s condition private as they consider that important to his recovery. The family has even taken tabloids to trial for speculating about his condition.

Sabine-Kehm, Schumacher’s manager, has even blasted a magazine that had reported that he had taken his first steps last month.

At this point, Schumacher’s family request patience and prayers from fans to make the German Formula One champion have a fast recovery and that we can all see him as his old self again.
