Justin Wilson's Car Will Participate In Indycar Season Finale

Justin Wilson passed away last Sunday at Pocono IndyCar 500 when his car got caught by debris, forcing his car to crash into a wall. The whole racing community was shocked by the event.

For the Season Finale at Sonoma Raceway, Wilson´s car will be racing after all.  The seat will be taken by the veteran IndyCar Series driver Oriol Servia.  Servia is a 41-year old Spaniard. He won Champ Car in 2005 in Montreal.  He was Wilson´s long-time friend and feels privileged and honored to be driving the No. 25 Honda car initially intended for Justin Wilson.

"I have known and raced Justin for more than 10 years. I am honored and emotional with the opportunity of driving his car this weekend," were Servia´s word at the announcement.

Stefan, Wilson´s younger brother, stated that the family approves of this decision, "As a family, we cannot imagine a better person to race in Justin's honor than Oriol. His path and Justin's crossed in many different ways through the years. As a competitor, and also as a person, he carries Justin's spirit well, and we know that Justin would approve."

It has been confirmed that American Honda Motor Company will make a donation of $50 for every lap that the Honda completes. These donations will go to Wilson Children´s Fund.

Andretti Autosport, the team to which Justin belonged, stated through its owner, Michael Andretti, “Justin was a true racer and advocate to our sport.  We will have Justin and his family in our hearts this weekend as we honour him in the way he would want us to, by doing what he loved – racing.”

This is truly a difficult task for Oriol Servia, given the amount of attention the car might get during the race, and, as he expresses, the fact that they were close friends makes this task “so difficult on so many levels for obvious reasons.”
