The SpyTec SII GL300 Portable GPS

The SpyTec SII GL300 Portable GPS

The market is flooded with GPS trackers and new ones are being released each day. Before making a purchase, you have to be sure that it is an option that will not only serve your current application but also give you value for your money. That brings us to the SpyTec SII GL300 portable GPS and what it has to offer.

Features

One of the most astonishing facts about SPyTec is that the manufacture does not have a stand-alone app for their tracker. This is something the competition already has nailed down. While Desktop users don’t have much to worry about, it is the mobile users that seem to be getting the raw end of the deal by accessing a stripped down version of the desktop site.

Apart from that there is some positive news. Phone users can view the current location of the target as well as its location in the last 24 hours. You can also track vitals like the battery life of the tracker from the mobile site or plot the coordinates from the tracker.

Design

Even though the tracker weighs only 2.11 ounces, the build is quite strong and sturdy, and the external layout is well thought out. It has a green indicator light that lets you know when you have a GPS signal which is a useful addition.

On the left, is the mini USB port and on the right, you have the SIM slot. The tracker comes with a mini Philips screwdriver to help you undo the screws that hold down the SIM card.

Performance

If there is one thing the SpyTec GL300 has figured out, that would be accuracy. It is simply excellent and can zero in on the location to within a couple of yards. The refresh rate is pegged at a minute at most which is unquestionably better than with most other trackers in the same field for the same price.

Battery life

Your GPS tracker is only as good as its battery life, and SpyTec pegs that of the GL300 at two weeks depending on the frequency. That is like most of the other competitors.

Something that should be addressed soon is the possibility of having a uniform app for all users which would immensely increase user-friendliness. Other than that, it is an excellent GPS tracker with impressive accuracy and acceptable battery life.
